Domestic, family and sexual violence

Domestic violence isn’t only hitting. It can be someone controlling your money, your phone, who you see and where you go. It can be threats, put-downs, jealousy, being made to feel like you’re the problem, or walking on eggshells so things don’t blow up.

A lot of people don’t call it abuse, because it crept in slowly and they learned to survive it. But your body usually knows before your mind is ready to say it: the knot in your stomach when you hear the car pull in, the scanning, the bracing, the shrinking.

If any of this sounds familiar, for you or someone you care about, you don’t need to be sure before you call. You can just talk it through.
