9D Breathwork

9D Breathwork, explained simply.

Whether you’ve never done breathwork before, or you’ve tried it and wondered what makes 9D different, this is everything I’d tell you before your first session.

What it is

Your breath. Your body. Your experience.

9D Breathwork combines conscious, connected breathing with nine layers of engineered sound, frequency and guidance. You lie down, put noise-cancelling headphones on, close your eyes and breathe.

Two things happen at once. Your breath works on your body: it shifts your nervous system and brings up what’s been stored there. At the same time, the audio works on your brain. It moves you out of busy, analytical thinking and into the slower alpha and theta brainwave states you’d usually only reach in deep meditation. That’s where your thinking mind quiets and your subconscious, the part of you running most of your patterns, becomes easier to reach.

In a lot of breathwork, the breath is guided live, there’s some music in the room, and you can hear everyone around you breathing and moving through their own experience. In 9D, everything is in your headphones: the breath, the guidance and eight more layers of sound, all working together. That’s where the name comes from.

So even in a room full of people, you’re completely inside your own experience.

You don’t need to steer any of it. Your body knows what to bring up, and when. Your only job is to breathe. Mine is to watch over you while you do.

The nine dimensions

What makes it 9D

Nine dimensions, all working at the same time. You don’t need to understand any of them to do the work, but I know some of you want to know exactly what you’re saying yes to.

  1. 1

    Multi-dimensional sound

Audio engineered to move all around you, so you stop listening to the journey and start feeling like you’re inside it.

  2. 2

    Binaural brain entrainment

A slightly different tone in each ear. Your brain blends them into one steady pulse and starts to match it, easing you out of busy, thinking mode into slower brainwave states.

  3. 3

    Solfeggio frequencies

Specific tones woven through the journey that shape its emotional feel and help you drop deeper.

  4. 4

    Isochronic brainwave tones

Fast, rhythmic pulses of sound that work alongside the binaural beats to shift your brainwave state.

  5. 5

    432 Hz harmonic tuning

Music tuned to 432 Hz, which has a warmer, softer feel that lands in the body.

  6. 6

    Somatic breathwork

The breath itself. Conscious, connected breathing that works directly on your nervous system and moves what your body has been holding.

  7. 7

    Subliminal hypnotic therapy

Drawn from clinical hypnosis. Suggestions that speak to your subconscious, where your patterns and automatic reactions actually live.

  8. 8

    Guided coaching

A voice that guides you through the breath and challenges the stories and beliefs that keep you stuck.

  9. 9

    Bioacoustic sound effects

Low-frequency sound you feel in your body, not just hear. It adds depth and helps emotion move.

I won’t promise you a particular outcome. Every body is different, and so is every journey. What I can tell you is what I see in the room, session after session, and what I’ve felt in my own body.

Where 9D comes from

9D Breathwork was created by Brian Kelly, a self-described sceptic who went deep into breath, sound and the nervous system after seeing what a single breathwork session did for a close friend. He found breath alone was powerful but left potential on the table, so he built the layers around it. Today there are more than 1,300 certified 9D facilitators in over 50 countries. I’m one of them.

The journeys

Not every session feels the same.

There are three kinds of 9D journey. I’ll always tell you which one we’re doing before we start.

  1. Calming

    Down-regulation

Slower, gentler breathing that shifts your nervous system toward rest. It quiets the mind, softens tension and brings you into deep relaxation. For when you’re wired, burnt out or can’t switch off, and the gentlest place to start.

  2. Calming and activating

    Hybrid

A blend of energising and calming breath, moving in waves. Your system is woken up, then brought back down to settle, so you get release and restoration in the same journey.

  3. Activating

    Activation

Strong, energising breath that wakes your whole system up and helps move emotion that’s been stuck. The most intense of the three, and not right for everyone, so read the safety information first.

Activating journeys open things up. Calming journeys help your body restore and integrate. Your nervous system needs both.

What you might feel

Whatever comes up is welcome.

Emotion isn’t separate from your body. It’s felt there first: a tight chest, a lump in your throat, heat in your face. So when it moves, you feel it move.

Sensation

  • Tingling or vibration
  • Feeling hot, cold, or both
  • Tightness in your hands, feet or jaw
  • Shaking or trembling
  • Heaviness, or a floating feeling

Emotion

  • Tears that come out of nowhere
  • Waves of different emotions
  • Grief, anger, or laughter
  • A lump in your throat, or pressure in your chest
  • A deep sense of peace

Mind

  • Your mind wandering, which is normal
  • Thoughts drifting in and out
  • Memories or images surfacing
  • Moments of clarity
  • Everything going quiet

Some people feel all of it. Some feel very little, and that’s okay too. You’re always in control: you can slow down, go back to breathing normally, or stop at any time.

My role

While you breathe, I’m tracking your nervous system.

I watch your breathing, your body and the small movements most people wouldn’t notice. A jaw tightening. Hands clenching. A breath catching, or dropping away. Those signs tell me where your system is at, and what it might need.

When it gets hard, I help you stay with your breath. When you need to ease off, I help you do that too. If you need support, I’m right there, and any touch, like a hand to ground you, only happens with your permission.

What I’m tracking

  • The rhythm and depth of your breath
  • Micro-movements in your face, hands and body
  • Signs your system is activating, or starting to shut down
  • When to encourage you, and when to help you slow down

You can let go, because someone is holding the space.

Integration

The session is the start. Integration is where it lands.

What happens after your session is just as important as the session itself.

During the journey, your nervous system gets something a lot of bodies rarely feel for long: deep safety while being fully present. Integration is how your body learns to hold onto that. To stay regulated without effort. To respond instead of react. To recover faster after stress.

That doesn’t happen in one session. It happens through repetition and action. That’s why I give you practical tools to support your nervous system in the days after, because awareness alone doesn’t create change.

And after any session with me, whether it’s a community event, a partnered event or a private session, you get three free 45-minute integration calls to check in on how it’s landing.

In the days after, you might notice

  • Calm and mental clarity
  • Tiredness, and a need for deeper rest
  • Emotional waves that come and go
  • Vivid dreams
  • Old patterns briefly resurfacing
  • Bouncing back from stress more quickly

None of this is a setback. It’s your system finally having enough safety to process what it couldn’t before.

Is 9D right for you right now?

9D isn’t right for every body at every moment. That’s not about keeping you out. It’s about making sure you have the safest experience possible.

If any of these apply to you, reach out to me before you book and let’s talk it through.

Your body

  • Pregnancy
  • Epilepsy or a history of seizures
  • A heart condition, or high or low blood pressure
  • An aneurysm
  • Recent surgery or injury
  • Diabetes, or a thyroid, eye or respiratory condition

Your mental health

  • Bipolar
  • Schizophrenia or psychosis
  • Severe PTSD
  • A mental health admission in the last month

Often there’s still a way in. Sometimes a calming journey is the better fit. I’ll also ask you to check in with your doctor, so we’re making the decision with the right information.

Everyone completes an intake form before attending, and it’s sent to you when you book.

My Safety and Contraindications Guide explains the different types of breathwork, what you might experience, each contraindication in detail, and how to talk to your doctor about it.

Questions

What people ask me

Do I need any experience?

No. I teach you the breath pattern before we start, and you’re guided the whole way through. You don’t need to talk or share anything.

Will I lose control?

No. You’re always in control. You can slow your breath, go back to breathing normally, or stop at any time. You’re the authority over your own body.

What if I don’t feel anything?

That’s okay, and it’s common. Some people feel huge shifts, some feel subtle ones, and some feel very little in the moment. There’s no right experience, and it doesn’t mean it didn’t work.

It looks really intense on social media. Will mine be like that?

Not necessarily. Social media shows the biggest moments, the crying, shaking and screaming, because that’s what gets filmed and shared. It’s not the whole picture, and it’s not the measure of a good session. And you’re not the person in that video. Your body, your history and your journey are your own, so what comes up for you will be yours too. Plenty of journeys are quiet and still. How intense it gets depends on the type of journey and what your body is ready for on the day, and you’re in control the whole time.

Why didn’t I have the same experience as last time?

Because you’re not the same person you were last time. Your body only brings up what it’s ready to, on that day. Chasing a past experience can pull you back into your head, and that’s the opposite of what we’re doing. A quieter session isn’t a lesser one. Often it means your system is integrating what came up before. Every journey meets you where you are, and that’s why repetition matters.

Is it therapy?

No. 9D Breathwork is not therapy, counselling or medical treatment, and it doesn’t replace professional care. If you’re working with a health professional, keep doing that.

Will I be filmed?

Only ever with your permission. I sometimes film sessions, but never without asking you first, and you can always say no.

What should I do beforehand?

Don’t eat anything heavy for a couple of hours before. Bring a blanket, a pillow and water, and wear comfortable clothes. Avoid alcohol or any other substances for 24 hours before. And read the safety information before you book.
